What started in 2011 as a blog recording a six-month sabbatical to Australia, Doha, London, Malta and Turkey...ended up recording my own personal views of aging as I travel through my aging process.
Followed by my second sabbatical in 2018-2019 that takes me to Malta, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, S Korea, Japan continues around the world to Canada and back to San Diego. An eight-month odyessy.
Amasra to the north of Ankara on the Black Sea. A small tourist own now, but back in the 1600's it was an important fortification. The famous Genoese fort joined two islands: the bigger one is called Büyük ada (Great Island) while the smaller one is called Tavşan adası (Rabbit Island). The Galata Tower (previous post) was also built by the Genoese. The sea is clear, warm and inviting alas, my experience of the Black Sea was cold water and hence no swimming trunks. Genoese domination ended in 1460 when the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II conquered the whole Anatolian shores of the Black Sea.
